Communicating Moods

Activity Steps:

Create works of art that communicates different moods

1. Create:
After viewing the work of several artists, explore how lines and shading can evoke various moods.
2. Present:
Post your drawing on the classroom wall and examine your peers' work.
3. Analyze:
Compare the different mood portrayals. Can you 'read' the moods in the squares? Did other students produce drawings that are similar to yours? What are some unusual yet effective illustrations?
4. Create:
Repeat the exercise but concentrate on the use of color. Draw colored lines and shapes and fill in backgrounds with color, or simply add color to the lines you already drew.
5. Extension:
Make a similar series of simple drawings, using scribbled lines and areas of color, to react to various types of music.
