SFMOMA offers a variety of tours designed to meet students' specific needs and interests. School tours are free of charge and must be arranged in advance. The Museum cannot accommodate unscheduled school groups with private tours or free admission, but unscheduled groups with the requisite number of chaperones may visit the Museum independently and are eligible for a group discount. Please see Tour Procedures below for more information on leading your students through the galleries.

Look, Learn, Create Tours for Grades 3-8
This program is designed to engage students through inquiry-based tours and hands-on creation. Students break into small groups to tour the Museum's galleries with a docent. During the tour, students participate in hands-on gallery activities. Each Museum tour is preceded by an in-school docent orientation, which prepares students for their visit.

Tours are booked twice a year: once in September for the fall semester and once in December for the spring semester. No requests are accepted by telephone. To request a School Tours and Teacher Programs brochure, which contains an application form, call the Docent Tour Scheduling Office at 415.357.4095. Look, Learn, Create tours are free of charge.

Certified Teacher Self-Guided Tours & Audi
o-Guided Tours for High School Students
High school teachers wishing to lead independent tours with their students (with or without the use of the Museum's audio tour) must first attend a certification workshop at the Museum.

The workshop will acquaint teachers with the Museum's collections and touring procedures, provide preparatory classroom materials, and explain the options for self-touring. The $35 workshop fee ($30 for SFMOMA members) includes a packet of take-home materials. To sign up for the workshop, call the Docent Tour Scheduling Office at 415.357.4095 and request a School Tours and Teacher Programs brochure, which contains an application form.

Once certified, teachers are eligible to schedule self-guided tours for their classes on weekday afternoons. When participating in a prescheduled self-guided tour, students, teachers, and chaperones are admitted to the Museum free of charge. Audio tours are available in the Evelyn and Walter Haas Jr. Atrium for $3 per student.

Summer Youth Tours
Summer Youth Tours are designed to engage youth through inquiry-based visits to the galleries and hands-on creative activities. Students break into small groups to tour the Museum's galleries with a docent; afterward, they return to our studio classrooms to participate in an art project. Tours are offered from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from June 12, 2006 - August 25, 2006.

To schedule a Summer Youth Tour, call the Docent Tour Scheduler at 415.357.4095.

Tour Procedures
In order to enhance your visit, please divide your class into several smaller groups, each with a dedicated chaperone. School groups will be admitted to the Museum ONLY if they have the requisite number of chaperones: one adult per 10 students is required for grades 3 – 12. Chaperones must remain with their sub-groups (in the same gallery or in close proximity) throughout the duration of their visit and take responsibility for the group's behavior.

The maximum number of students admitted to the Museum at once is 35; groups of more than 35 students may visit the Museum in shifts at half-hour intervals. While one group is visiting SFMOMA, the other group may visit the Yerba Buena Gardens across the street until it is their turn to enter the Museum.

Students are asked to leave their backpacks at school or on the bus. Otherwise, all backpacks MUST be left at coat check. Students should observe all general Museum rules, including:

o Do not touch the art.
o Speak quietly.
o Walk — do not run — in the galleries.
o Stay behind the black line on the floor in front of artworks.
o Use only pencils in the galleries — pens are not permitted.

Most of all, have fun and enjoy the Museum! Thank you for your careful consideration and adherence to these policies.
