NEW WORK: Lynn Hershman and Yael Kanarek
With the redesign of e.space, the San Francisco
Museum of Modern Art proceeds with its investigation of the online medium
as both a venue for new art projects and a space in which the conventions
of exhibiting can be re-addressed. New Work features recent additions
to the inventory of art projects that sfmoma.org points to; these works
may be owned (some Web sites are part of the Architecture + Design permanent
collection); they may have been commissioned (as are these two new projects);
or, they may simply be contextualized, or "framed," with a curatorial concept
that infuses a specific curatorial perspective on the selected pieces or
projects. In that sense, New Work is also a tool to present new experiments
in curatorial practice pertaining to the specificity of this venue.
