Louie's diverse artistic influences are evident in the context show of works chosen by the photographer to accompany his exhibition. Discussing works in the SFMOMA collection by artists such as Brassaï, Morimura, and Picasso, Whitlock traces Louie's interest in notions of the muse and the exotic and examines the tradition of representing prostitutes in art.
