One of the five artists featured in SFMOMA's 2011 exhibition Face of Our Time, San Francisco-based Jim Goldberg has for more than thirty years chronicled the lives of individuals in marginalized, war-ravaged, and impoverished populations. Blending documentary photography with fine art, he elevates and personalizes the plight of his subjects, exposing their vulnerability and inviting us to join him as witnesses to their struggle.

His work has earned widespread critical acclaim and honors that include National Endowment for the Arts and Guggenheim fellowships, the Henri Cartier-Bresson Award, and the Deutsche Börse Photograph Prize. He is represented in the collections of SFMOMA, the Art Institute of Chicago, the J. Paul Getty Museum, the Library of Congress, and the Whitney Museum of American Art.
