Overview

Recognizing Germany's vast contributions to one of today's most exciting artistic media, SFMOMA presents a three-part series highlighting German video works. This final program in the series features Harun Farocki's documentary on surveillance and prisons, Gefängnisbilder (2000, 60 min.), as well as Alice Creischer and Andreas Siekmann's work Es gibt immer nur mehr (2002, 10 min.). At 4 p.m. the program continues with screenings of films examining actors who have worked with Rainer Werner Fassbinder: Interview (2003, 9 min.) by Jeanne Faust and Sehnsucht nach Sodom (Yearning for Sodom) (1988, 47 min.) by Kurt Raab, Hanno Baethe, and Hans Hirschmüller.

All three programs draw on the exhibition and restoration project 40yearsvideoart.de Part 1-Digital Heritage: Video Art in Germany from 1963 until the Present, organized by SFMOMA Media Arts Curator Rudolf Frieling prior to his tenure at SFMOMA.
