Cultural Life in New Orleans Post-Katrina
Ruth Berson, deputy director, exhibitions and collections, SFMOMA
Jill Sterrett, director of collections, SFMOMAKoret Visitor Education Center
noon - 1:00 p.m.
The massive physical devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina in August 2005 severely impacted the cultural infraestructure of Louisiana and Mississippi. In the hurricane's wake, two members of SFMOMA's senior staff became involved in assessing the needs of cultural organizations - ranging from art, science, and history museums to historic plantations - along the Gulf Coast and assisting with recovery. Their efforts are part of a model program conceived to aid organizations affected by similar catastrophes in the future. Join Berson and Sterrett as they share the unexpected issues and incredible stories that emerged from their post-Katrina activity.
Free with Museum admission.
