SFMOMA Remembers David Ireland
4:00 p.m. Remarks
Phyllis Wattis Theater
5:00 p.m. Public remembrance
The Schwab RoomThis memorial service honors Bay Area sculptor and conceptual artist David Ireland, who passed away last spring. Ireland was a central figure in conceptual art in the Bay Area and beyond. From the 1970s until his death, he produced a highly idiosyncratic body of work concerned with the creation and function of art within everyday life. The event includes a program in the Wattis Theater featuring speakers who were close to Ireland and his work, followed by a gathering in The Schwab Room. A gallery within the exhibition Matisse and Beyond is devoted to works by Ireland through November 8, 2009.
Free and open to the public. Seats in the Wattis Theater are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
