Gerhard Richter as a German Artist
John Weber, SFMOMA Leanne and George Roberts Curator of Education and Public Programs
Phyllis Wattis Theater
11:00 a.m.
Many of Richter's artistic choices result from his working in a politically divided postwar Germany that was actively seeking to regain and renew modernist practices that had been suppressed during the Third Reich. In this talk, Weber explores Richter's work and the historical contexts that produced it.
