Overview
Poet, essayist, translator, and publisher Hejinian is well known for her landmark collection My Life and many other books of poetry. Her collection of essays, The Language of Inquiry, includes her influential text on the work of Gertrude Stein, "Two Stein Talks." In this program, Hejinian addresses Stein’s relation to 19th-century realism in painting and literature and her shift, under the gaze of the paintings she collected, to a different sense of realism, of which Cubism might stand as one example.
