Overview

Pirkle Jones and Dorothea Lange's 1956 Death of a Valley series, which documents the transformation of an agricultural community, set a precedent among photographers for a nonidealized view of land use. Garcia discusses this series in conjunction with other work that examines the effects of development in California.
