From Transcendence to Tract Homes: Pirkle Jones and the Changing California Landscape
Erin Garcia, curatorial associate, photography, SFMOMA

Koret Visitor Education Center
11:00 a.m. - noon

Pirkle Jones and Dorothea Lange's 1956 Death of a Valley series, which documents the transformation of an agricultural community, set a precedent among photographers for a nonidealized view of land use. Garcia discusses this series in conjunction with other work that examines the effects of development in California.
