The Real and the Represented: Reading Roy Lichtenstein's Images
Joshua Shirkey, curatorial associate, painting and sculpture, SFMOMA
Phyllis Wattis Theater
11:00 a.m. - noon
Fascinated by the difference between the real and the represented, Lichtenstein drew visual material from a wide range of sources, from comic books to art history. His revisions of this material often drastically altered its original meaning. Shirkey discusses Lichtenstein's concern with illusion and how we as viewers are trained to read his images and make meaning.
Museum and program admission are free.
