Myths and Icons: Kiki Smith as Historian
Joshua Shirkey, curatorial associate, painting and sculpture, SFMOMA
Phyllis Wattis Theater
11:00 a.m. - noon
Known as the most visceral of sculptors, Smith has used her art to rewrite a variety of histories - those of art, religion, and women, to name a few. In this program, Shirkey traces the artist's interest in our cultural past through her sculptures and two-dimensional works, examining her efforts to imagine new narratives for an era profoundly changed by feminism, AIDS, medical technology, and environmentalism.
Museum and program admission are free.
