Slow Time: Meditation, Duration, and Labor in Contemporary Art
Tara McDowell, curatorial associate, painting and sculpture, SFMOMA

Koret Visitor Education Center
11:00 a.m. - noon

Western society has been moving more quickly since the advent of industrialization. A number of artists, however, have chosen to resist this trend, making works that reflect intense labor or meditation, or that take duration as their subject. McDowell explores this topic with a discussion of works by artists such as Vija Celmins, Agnes Martin, and filmmaker Andrei Tarkovsky.
