Supply and Demand: The Art of Shepard Fairey

Date + Time

Thursday, July 06, 2006
6:30 p.m.

Location

Phyllis Wattis Theater

Overview

In the 1990s Fairey became known for his Obey campaign, which unfolded before a worldwide audience. The guerrilla tactics and large, propaganda-like posters he employed for the campaign earned him a large youth and street-art following. Now, as head of the firm Studio Number One, Fairey creates graphic identities for clients such as Red Bull, Levi's, and PlayStation 2. In this lecture, he discusses his work as a self-described "double agent," moving between the worlds of commerce and art. A book signing follows in the Haas Atrium.
