Alexander Girard: Postwar to Postmodern
Ruth Keffer, curatorial associate, architecture and design, SFMOMA
Koret Visitor Education Center
11:00 a.m. - noon
Inspired by the folk art he collected from around the world, Girard designed with an eye for color and pattern. While he worked alongside such giants of Modernism as Charles Eames and George Nelson, Girard's aesthetic was a surprising counterpoint to the streamlined, minimalist forms that were the accepted standard for mid-century design. Keffer explores Girard's unusual place in design history and leads a gallery visit to Alexander Girard: Vibrant Modern.
Free with Museum admission.
