A Portrait of the Artist, or Fisher-Inspired Films
Phyllis Wattis Theater
The Fisher Collection features significant groupings of works by artists well loved by Doris and Donald Fisher, often with the aim of representing the arc of those artists' careers. In so doing, the collection creates an intimate characterization of these artists and their evolving bodies of work. One can think of the collection as a sequence of portraits. This film series highlights revealing cinematic portrayals of some of the Fisher Collection artists, often made in experimental, documentary forms. It also examines films produced by the artists themselves, which, though not autobiographical, still serve as self-portraits of their creators.
