Ellsworth Kelly in San Francisco brings together for the first time twenty-two major works recently acquired by SFMOMA from the artist's personal collection with paintings, sculptures, collages, and drawings from private collections throughout the Bay Area. The exhibition chronicles Kelly's eloquent career, from his student days in Boston to his sojourn in Paris, where he refined his unique approach to abstraction, and his move to New York, where he developed the biomorphic style that led to his shaped canvases and dynamic, colorful multipanel works of the last two decades.
