Although much has been written about her dramatic life — a tragic death at an early age, struggles to gain acceptance as a young female artist in New York, a childhood flight from Nazi Germany — Eva Hesse's art has yet to receive the widespread public attention it deserves. SFMOMA is proud to present an exhibition of extraordinary depth including paintings, sculpture, and works on paper, all striking in their beauty and powerful sensibility. Co-organized by Elisabeth Sussman, guest curator for SFMOMA, and Dr. Renate Petzinger from Museum Wiesbaden, Germany, Eva Hesse features approximately 150 of the artist's most significant pieces, including several key works acquired in recent years by SFMOMA.
