In 1982, Karen Tsujimoto, then associate curator at SFMOMA, wrote this catalogue essay for Rauschenberg / Rosenquist, an exhibition organized by the Art Museum Association, San Francisco, that traveled to more than a dozen venues across the United States. The presentation paired Rauschenberg’s Chow Bags series (1977) with six prints made that same year by James Rosenquist (b. 1933).
