Installation View

This installation view of the SFMOMA exhibition 75 Years of Looking Forward: The Anniversary Show (December 19, 2009–January 16, 2011) shows Trophy IV (for John Cage) in the center of the gallery, with Cy + Roman Steps (I–V) (1952) visible on the wall at right. Both works reference Rauschenberg’s friendships and collaborations with fellow artists. The tire tread affixed to the wooden base of Trophy IV (for John Cage) invokes Automobile Tire Print (1953), a work that Rauschenberg and Cage created together.
