After meeting with SFMOMA conservators to discuss replacing the fabric veil that had been missing from Collection for more than twenty-five years, Rauschenberg returned to his studio and custom-dyed a new piece of fabric. He sent the fabric to the museum along with this letter noting his unconventional choice of tea and wine as dyeing agents. The fabric was later cut and attached to the artwork by SFMOMA conservators.
