Our September Artcast focuses on two exhibitions: Cindy Sherman and Stage Presence: Theatricality in Art and Media. First, artist Cindy Sherman talks with her friend, the filmmaker John Waters, about using herself as a model and describes the way she creates the characters in her photographs. Next, curator Frank Smigiel introduces the live performance series he organized in conjunction with Stage Presence. This episode also includes a preview of the final event in the series: Rashaad Newsome's Shade Compositions, which will take place in full on October 4, 2012 in SFMOMA's Haas Atrium. We wrap up with interviews with two of the artists involved in Stage Presence: AA Bronson, formerly of the Canadian artist collective General Idea, and Bay Area artist Tucker Nichols, who designed the theater setting for the Stage Presence performance series.
Each SFMOMA Artcast brings you illuminating audio and video interviews with artists, curators, and visitors as they respond to the works on view and in the museum's collection.
