The Studio 13 Jass Band is part of a long tradition of Bay Area artists who also play music. Founded in the late 1940s at the San Francisco Art Institute (SFAI, then called the California School of Fine Arts), the band was formed by SFAI instructors David Park and Elmer Bischoff. In the 1950s its roving cast of members also included Bay Area artist Wally Hedrick (banjo). This recording features Elmer Bischoff (piano), Jack Lowe (drums), Jon Schueler (bass), Charlie Clark (clarinet), J. Hawkins (drums), Bill Napier, Effie Resnick, and a few others.
