SECA Oral History Interviews

In conjunction with the museum's seventy-fifth anniversary in 2010, SFMOMA curators Janet Bishop and Apsara DiQuinzio conducted a series of oral history interviews with past SECA Award winners. In the ten interview excerpts shown here, artists from throughout the award program's history reflect candidly and conversationally on the experience of winning the SECA Award and what it has meant to their artwork and careers. Highlights include discussion of the nerve-wracking selection process, in which curators and SECA members visit the finalists' studios to learn firsthand about the artists and their work.
