Futurefarmers discuss A Variation on the Powers of Ten, a project that draws inspiration from the 1968 documentary Powers of Ten by Charles and Ray Eames. The Eames film opens with two people having a picnic; the camera at first moves out, in factors of ten, toward the edges of space, and then reverses course, moving inward to the subatomic level. In 2011, Amy Franceschini and Michael Swaine of Futurefarmers invited ten scholars from major universities, each assigned a power of ten, to sit with them for individual al fresco feasts featuring menus and conversation topics of the scholar's choosing.
