SFMOMA offers a variety of professional enrichment programs to help teachers expand their knowledge of art history. Special workshops and teacher institutes provide training on how to use the museum's resources, while our teaching aids make it easy to bring art into the classroom.
Bay Area teachers who are SFMOMA members can borrow materials from the Teacher Resource Space in the Koret Visitor Education Center to supplement class curricula or prepare students for visiting the museum.
For information about tour options and museum visits for grades 3 through 12, consult our School Tours page.

Teacher Programs at SFMOMA are designed to introduce educators to the museum's collections and special exhibitions, offer techniques for integrating art into classroom curriculum, present methods for teaching with art objects, and provide a forum for dialogue and exchange.
Ideal for high school and 8th grade teachers who would like to tour their students through the museum without a docent, this workshop acquaints educators with SFMOMA's collections and touring procedures. Participants receive materials to prepare students for their museum visits and are eligible to schedule self-guided tours for their classes free of charge. Teachers are required to be recertified every three years.
The workshop is offered once per semester. To register, download an application (PDF) or contact the School, Youth, and Family Programs Office at 415.357.4067 or edu@sfmoma.org.
These half-day workshops for educators of all levels present ways to relate upcoming special exhibitions to lesson plans in social studies, history, language arts, and visual arts. Each workshop includes a private exhibition walkthrough and a guided exploration of SFMOMA's online student/teacher curriculum site, ArtThink.
