SFMOMA invites children and adults to get creative!

  • Look around you and discover that art is everywhere.
  • Think about line, color, and shape.
  • Create your own art.

Activities take place throughout the museum, but our Family Programs HQ is the Koret Visitor Education Center on the second floor, which offers interactive materials and information for all ages on a daily basis.

From June 3, 2013, the SFMOMA building will be temporarily closed while we prepare for our expansion, scheduled to open in early 2016. In addition to a dynamic range of off-site exhibitions and public programs, we'll continue to offer special programs for families while our building is transformed. Family Sundays

TIME to Move
Every Sunday through May 26
Kids get in FREE!
11:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Family tour at 1:00 p.m.

Explore art, create your own, travel to virtual worlds, get hands-on, discover special places, be inspired. That's just a hint at the fun we have in store for you on Family Sundays. Now through May 26, it's TIME to make some art. March, glide, and sashay your way to Family Sunday as we count down to our big move! Moderators guide participatory art projects, and docents lead family-friendly gallery tours. Look. Think. Create. That's the plan for Family Sunday.

Program and museum admission are free for children 12 and under. Regular admission applies for adults and students.

The Country Dog Gentlemen Travel to Extraordinary Worlds

Come romp with our two canine celebrities in SFMOMA's interactive feature The Country Dog Gentlemen Travel to Extraordinary Worlds. Our ever-expressive guide dogs will lead you on a magical journey of artworks in SFMOMA's collection. Then it's your turn to create art in the styles you just explored. Expect much tail wagging at the results!

Detail Detective

Get out your magnifier. It's time to investigate art the modern way by playing Detail Detective, an interactive visual literacy game. Your job as Super Sleuth is to uncover the hidden clues in famous artworks from SFMOMA's painting and sculpture collection. You'll find yourself amazed at the intricate detail and covert layers that normally escape the untrained eye. (Is that you, Watson?) Leave no stone unturned. The game is afoot!
