Jennifer Morla

American

1955, New York, New York

Biography

Throughout her career, graphic designer Jennifer Morla has demonstrated a unique talent for converting traditional visual iconography into eclectic contemporary designs, in which imagery, type, and abstract forms are layered atop one other in various ways.

Morla has lived and worked in San Francisco since 1978, when she moved to California after earning a bachelor's degree in graphic design from the Massachusetts College of Art. For several years she was the art director for Levi Strauss & Co., where she challenged the firm's longtime reliance on images of the American West to market their products. By 1984, she had established her own studio, Morla Design. Her diverse client list included MTV Networks, Chronicle Books, and Wells Fargo. Morla was invited to assume the position of chief creative office at Design Within Reach in 2005. She also teaches in the graphic design program at California College of the Arts.
