“If I could do anything for you anywhere in Palestine, what would it be?” This is the simple yet profound question that Jacir, who holds an American passport, posed to Palestinians living in cities as far-flung as New York, Montreal, Paris, and Bethlehem. Here she documents why these individuals were unable to travel to locations in Israel, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip and her attempts to fulfill their requests, some of which were impossible to complete. We see her crossing physical and psychological borders on behalf of others, performing actions often taken for granted—hugging a loved one, eating a favorite meal, watching the sunset—to connect members of the Palestinian community with their homeland and one another.
