This visceral, corporeal form is made from fragments of objects that carry personal associations for the artist. Beasley purchased the muumuu from a store in Harlem where his grandmother and great-grandmother shopped for this type of housedress; the scrap of rug came from his apartment. Bound by a mixture of polyurethane foam and resin, these materials are imprinted with the movements of the artist’s body as he manipulated them before they solidified. The neckline of the muumuu is oriented in such a way that the shoulders jut out, as if the wearer were emerging from the wall.
