Soft, stacked geometric forms remain steadfastly abstract in this expansive diptych. The shapes build on Frecon’s varied interests in Pomo baskets, Nigerian textiles, and paintings by the thirteenth-century Italian artist Cimabue. Each color is composed of hand-ground pigments mixed with oils, which Frecon laboriously layered to create the highly differentiated surfaces seen here. The title underscores her deep commitment to art making and her quest to “keep any association or image” out of her paintings.
