A bright yellow form creates a second frame within Interior Landscape. The artist acknowledged that its spiky contours, produced by the original splash of paint, are atypical in her work, whereas the staining and saturated color that wrap around the edges of the canvas are considered her hallmarks. Many of her titles make reference to nature, but Frankenthaler never drew subjects directly from the landscape, instead favoring explorations of abstraction.
