The signature and inscription visible here are typically hidden under a mat board when 3-83-B-25A is exhibited. Rauschenberg signed the photograph, and his studio assistant Bradley Jeffries added the inscription. “3-83” represents the month and year that Rauschenberg took the photograph (at the time he was on a trip to Japan). “B” denotes the film roll he used that month and “25A” is the specific frame number that corresponds to this image. The “#1” included in the inscription indicates that this was the first print made of this photograph from a planned edition of 50.
