Health (Tribute 21) honors Dr. Mathilde Krim (b. 1926), a research scientist who in the 1980s was among the first to research the AIDS virus. She is the founding chairman of the American Foundation for AIDS Research (amfAR), an organization dedicated to HIV/AIDS research, prevention, and advocacy; she held this position from 1990 to 2004. Her words are seen here alongside a reproduction of Rauschenberg’s print: “Fight injustice and ignorance no matter who their victims are, because whoever they are, they are a part of our human family. Their enemies, such as HIV, are also our enemies and the enemies of our children and future generations.”
