Artist Julia Scher reveals the philosophy and process behind her Predictive Engineering installations, all three iterations of which have been filmed at SFMOMA. She describes how Predictive Engineering 3 (1993- present), reconceived in 2016 for SFMOMA’s expanded building, encourages viewers to confront the ways in which security and surveillance can serve as mechanisms for social control.
