DORIS FISHER:  Don’t ask me how many Richters we have, but we have a number.

LAURA SATERSMOEN: I’m Laura Satersmoen, and as the Executive Director of the Fisher Art Foundation, I can tell you that the Fishers have twenty-five Gerhard Richter paintings in their collection!

DON FISHER: We bought in depth. And it was easy to like certain artists. The ones that we have liked, we’ve bought over the years in real depth.

 DORIS FISHER:  My favorite story is The Gymnast. When we had it down at our home in Atherton and my five year grandson looked at me and he said to me, ‘Grandma, was that you when you were younger?’

We’ve had a wonderful history with Gerhard Richter.  The reason that I am so taken with Gerhard Richter is because he does abstract work at the same time that he’s doing these photorealist –  it’s probably the wrong word, but that’s the word that I use.  And he’s doing these same things at the same time. Whereas so many artists have periods that they go through doing one type of thing and then they quit that and then they go on to something else. He is doing them all at the same time.
