Leyya Mona Tawil, also known as Lime Rickey International, is an artist working with dance, sound and performance practices. In 2003, Tawil founded ELIXIR, an organization dedicated to transdisciplinary performance and research on a local and international scale. She is also celebrating twenty years as the curator and director of TAC: Temescal Art Center in Oakland. Tawil is a Syrian, Palestinian, American; her articulation of Arab Experimentalism embeds political sub-narratives and cultural confusions into the performance fabric. Her performance scores have toured the US, Europe and the Arab world and have been featured in the Wall Street Journal, American Theatre Magazine, NEA Art Works and PAJ-Journal of Performance and Art. In 2016, she was a Columnist-in-Residency with SFMOMA’s Open Space; and has also published work in Detroit Research Journal, Movement Research’s Critical Correspondence, and QED: A Journal in GLBTQ Worldmaking.
