Contemporary Art X 121

Wednesday, Sept 13, 2006

6:30 p.m.

Participants

Terri Cohn, writer, curator, and art historian

This 10-session course examines the materials, techniques, and ideas behind contemporary art, as well as the key movements in modern art history that provide context for more recent developments. Cohn traces art’s evolution from Abstract Expressionism through Pop art and Minimalism and investigates the emergence of site-specific art, performance art, and new techniques in painting and sculpture. She also addresses the changing role of the artist, the influence of the international marketplace, and the radically altered role of the museum, from arbiter of taste to conversation starter.
