Join Artist’s Circle for this year’s Conversation + Cocktails with celebrated artist Glenn Ligon. Born in the Bronx in 1960, Ligon is one of America’s most astute commentators on gender, sexuality, and the construction of black identity. Working across media and often appropriating text and images from literature and pop culture, Ligon investigates American history and problems of representation as both aesthetic and social concerns.

The evening features Ligon in conversation with Gary Garrels, Elise S. Haas Senior Curator of Painting and Sculpture, along with cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, and live music.

Works by Ligon will be on view this spring as part of our On the Go exhibition Portraits and Other Likenesses from SFMOMA at the Museum of the African Diaspora, San Francisco, May 8 – October 11, 2015.
