This screening adds historic perspective to Descriptive Acts by showcasing seminal narrative experiments made between 1975 and 1992. John Smith's early linguistic research in Associations is an ideal introduction to Gary Hill's Primarily Speaking. Jeanne Finley's confrontational use of image and text in Accidental Confessions is at times humorous and absurd, but she ultimately establishes a critical political perspective on the military's mass media spin in Involuntary Conversion. The program ends with Smith's The Black Tower, a hilarious tour through a British urban landscape.
