John Zarobell, assistant curator, painting and sculpture, SFMOMA

In 1990 SFMOMA received a very generous bequest from Elise S. Haas that greatly enhanced the breadth and prestige of the museum’s holdings. The Haas collection includes Henri Matisse’s seminal work Femme au chapeau (Woman with the Hat) (1905) as well as Pablo Picasso’s Tête de trois quarts (Head in Three-Quarter View) (1907), an important study for his breakthrough painting Les Demoiselles d’Avignon of the same year. In this program Zarobell leads an insightful discussion about the installation of works from the Haas bequest currently on view in the galleries.
