Erin O’Toole, assistant curator of photography, SFMOMA
Widely considered a seminal event in the history of photography, the 1975 exhibition New Topographics: Photographs of a Man-Altered Landscape featured the work of 10 photographers with a new approach to an old genre. On the occasion of the exhibition’s restaging at SFMOMA, O’Toole reflects on the significance of the original exhibition and discusses its impact on contemporary photography.
