Allison Smith’s Arts & Skills Service has examined the relationship of art-making and war efforts both at home and on the battlefield, from knitting and bandage rolling to victory gardens, camouflage, and trench art. In today’s sessions, we check in with California College of the Arts (CCA) undergraduate and graduate students who have been charged with responding to this historical work. The students, part of Smith’s “Extreme Sculpture” and “Craft Lab” courses at CCA, have joined Arts & Skills Service through ENGAGE at CCA, a program that pairs faculty and students at CCA with community partners for project-based learning. Students from both courses will exhibit and talk about their work.
