The question of photographic truth is a popular subject among contemporary artists. Larry Sultan's complex pictures of suburban homes used as sets for adult films negotiate the boundary between fiction and truth - they use the seductive lighting of the sex industry, for example, yet divulge the edges of the set. In this talk and gallery tour, Whitlock discusses Sultan's exploration of photographic artifice and middle-class identity.
