Suzanne Stein and Dominic Willsdon Host Art Writing in the Bay Area

Thursday, September 23, 2010, 7:00 p.m.

Koret Visitor Education Center

On this first evening, Renny Pritikin, Patricia Maloney, Brandon Brown, Meg Shiffler and Erin O'Toole join Dominic Willsdon and Suzanne Stein in conversation about art writing in the Bay Area, especially the forms of writing, critical and otherwise, that museums allow and deny. What forms of speech and writing can the museum can promote and tolerate in good faith? In what ways can or should a museum be a platform for language arts? How can or should SFMOMA, and Open Space, support, add to or expand the proliferation of art discourse, critical and personal, here in the Bay Area?

Suzanne Stein, community producer and managing editor of Open Space, SFMOMA
Dominic Willsdon, curator of education and public programs, SFMOMA, host
Brandon Brown, poet, translator, publisher, and Open Space columnist
Patricia Maloney, editor of Art Practical
Renny Pritikin, director and curator of the Nelson Gallery and Fine Art Collection at UC Davis, and Open Space columnist
Erin O'Toole, associate curator of photography, SFMOMA
Meg Shiffler, gallery director, San Francisco Arts Commission
