New Work

Ross Bleckner
April 13–June 12, 1988

Ross Bleckner does not have a single, signature style, but alternates among several different modes. New Work: Ross Bleckner, the New York-based artist’s first solo museum exhibition, features 19 recent oil paintings and works on paper from three concurrent series — his “stripe paintings,” “dot paintings,” and “emblem paintings.” The essential element linking these seemingly disparate works is light, represented here as substance, atmosphere, and symbol.
