Robert Rauschenberg

May 05-September 07, 1999

This exhibition presents a rare look at Robert Rauschenberg's oeuvre. Eighteen important works by Rauschenberg, fourteen of which were acquired by SFMOMA in June 1998 through major support from Phyllis Wattis and others, are on view. The works have been traveling as part of a Robert Rauschenberg retrospective, organized by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum. After opening at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the exhibition traveled to The Menil Collection, Houston, the Museum Ludwig, Cologne, and the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao.
