From the Archive: Snapshots of William Eggleston

This panel discussion was presented on September 18, 2004, in conjunction with an SFMOMA exhibition of photographs from William Eggleston’s Los Alamos (1965–1974) series. Eggleston’s work is introduced through brief lectures by three speakers: Andy Grundberg, a curator and former photography critic for The New York Times; William Christenberry, a fellow photographer and close friend of Eggleston’s who shares his interest in the Southern vernacular; and Walter Hopps, a curator and roadtrip companion to Eggleston. Following these contextual discussions and personal accounts of Eggleston and his body of work, Eggleston joins this group of colleagues and friends on stage for an informal conversation. The program begins with an introduction by SFMOMA associate curator of photography Corey Keller and concludes with a question-and-answer session with the audience.
