Artist Jeff Koons To Speak At SFMOMA Director's Circle Dinner

Released: December 22, 2000 ·

Who
Contemporary Pop artist Jeff Koons will be the guest of honor and featured speaker at SFMOMA’s 15th annual Director’s Circle lecture and dinner.

Throughout his career, which took off in the early 1980s, Jeff Koons has made artwork that refers to the everyday world, appropriating vacuum cleaners, posters, plastic toys and advertisements, among other remnants of popular culture. His work is in part a return to Duchamp’s ready-mades, where decidedly non-art objects are placed in an art context.

What
The Director’s Circle lecture and black-tie dinner are organized in recognition of major donors to the Museum. Annual donors of $10,000 or more are members of SFMOMA’s Director’s Circle. Attendance is by invitation only.

Co-chaired by SFMOMA Trustees Gretchen Leach and Norah Stone, the event is generously sponsored by Bank Julius Baer & Co., Ltd.; Sotheby’s; and Sotheby’s International Realty.

The dinner will be catered by MeMe Pederson of Taste. The Evelyn and Walter J. Haas Atrium will be transformed into an elegant dining room with original decorations by Robert Fountain Design and Impact Lighting. Champagne will be donated by Champagne Mumm; sparkling water will be donated by the Crystal Geyser Water Company.
